Last Saturday I spent a fun morning in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with a friend at the Gettysburg Outdoor Antique Show. We’d been trying to go for the past three years. Let me tell you the third time was a charm. I want to share that fun with you. Leave a comment about the item you like to collect and you will have a chance to win one of the books or brooches. I’ve been collecting vintage tablecloths since the mid 90s. I haven’t bought one for a long time but couldn’t resist this just in time for summer tablecloth!
I bought these buttons first. I fell in love with the colors!
I couldn’t resist a couple of vintage postcards out of the thousands there. The top one is Portland, ME. The bottom is Fort Walton Beach, Florida where we used to live.
And how could I resist this cool magazine with a Coke ad on the back.
Then we found books! I’d never heard of the Dana Sisters.
I fell in love with the cover of this Nancy Drew:
And this Hardy Boys mystery:
I found an H to add to my collection. The woman who I bought it from said it was a bridle ornament.

I collect ceramic pitchers. Chicago has a neighborhood art festival almost every weekend during the summer, and I love checking out the pottery booths first. And then I make another pass, and try to keep myself from buying anything else. It is hard.

I thought I’d resisted buying any postcards until I went through my stuff this morning! We live in Fort Walton Beach once upon a time so I had to have it!
My husband and I was stationed at Fort Walton Beach Florida in 1975 -1976 at Elgin Air Force base. We survived Hurricane Eloise.😊

I collect teapots and cups & saucers. Does my massive number of books count as a collection? None of them are pricey, rare editions.
I’ve resisted teapots, cups, and saucers — so far. Books are a collection — pricey or not!
What wonderful new treasures. I have a large jar of keys that I have collected but my favorite are the skeleton keys. I love glass paper weights also.
Oh, keys sound like fun! And they wouldn’t take up too much room. And I can so see the appeal of glass paper weights!
Nice finds! I collect glass, especially Fenton glass. Hubby collects fountain pens.
What fun things to collect!
When I’m at a garage sale or antique store. I’m always looking for Hall China. My madden name was Hall. My mom had collected some pieces and I just loved that it has been a family item we shared and still hold close to my heart. So that’s in the top of my items to look for. Of course I’m always looking for something different, out of the ordinary 😊

I saw your note above about Fort Walton Beach! We lived in Shalimar even though Bob was stationed at Hurlburt. We were there in the early 2000s.
I collect antique salt cellers and spoons. I also like to collect antique glassware, my mother also liked really good crystal and antique glassware.
I love salt cellers and their tiny spoons! What a fun thing to collect. I saw some at the Gettysburg show but they didn’t have the spoons with them.
I collect old cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, and books, of course!
I bet the cookie jars are cute! Salt and pepper shakers can be hard to resist!

I have several of the Dana Girls books bought in 1963-64, including The Portrait in the Sand (copyright 1943) – loved these books!
I think I read a few but didn’t remember them as well as the Nancy Drew books!

What neat finds! Love old books- have set of Emilie Lorings and used to have most of the Trixie Belden books until someone stole stuff out of storage unit! Can’t resist old buttons, either!

I collect postcards from the Western PA area where I grew up and also Ellen Clapsaddle postcards that have wonderful artwork.
You need to go to the Gettysburg event — there were tons of Pennsylvania postcards. I’m not familiar with Ellen Clapsaddle but will look them up!
I like to collect old floral plates and unique salt and pepper shakers.
Two things that are always hard for me to resist when I’m out and about!

What wonderful finds! The tablecloth is nice! I recently completed my Donna Parker series and am always on the lookout for the Phylis Whitney young adult mysteries.
I didn’t know Phyllis Whitney wrote young adult mysteries. But maybe The Moonspinners is one of them — I just remembered that it is by Mary Stewart. That’s amazing you have all the Donna Parker books!
I love to go antiquing. At a shop in Vermont I found a 1957 edition of a Betty Crocker cookbook for kids. I can’t wait to bake with my granddaughters when they are a little older. I’ve also found some older Barbie dolls I’ve put away for them when they will appreciate them more. I used to have some Nancy Drew books but my Mom gave them away.
I love old cookbooks. And I have a friend who would be very jealous of the Barbie dolls! She collects them.
I guess i better leave a comment over here to be entered in the contest! I have a couple of brooches like those of my gramma’s. I would love to go around and look at all the things you saw….I wouldn’t know what to do…

I collect footed cake plates. They are on display on the top of my kitchen cabinets. Some are my grandmother’s and my great grandmother’s so they are very special. I also collect buttons.

I collect stamps and cat figurines or cat related items (such as house flags,seasonal decorations featuring cats. My daughter and son in law, lived in Ft Walton Beach, Florida, for about 2 yrs as son in law was stationed at the Air Force Base near there.
How fun! We were also stationed in FWB! It’s why I had to by the postcard.

Sherry, I can’t believe you never read The Dana Girls??? Nancy Drew, The Dana Girls, The Hardy Boys & Judy Bolton were all written in the same time frame, by the same group. I would love to win that book but make sure you read it first. I have collected butterflies for a long time. At one time I had over 5,000 things including my china set, silver & glassware. LOL As I got older I started passing things along to family & friends. I still like to look but the collector bug is padlocked up, very tightly. LOL
Wow, Doward! that is quite the collection. I’ve been giving things away too (even as I keep buying them)! I will read The Dana Girls on your recommendation! I’m not sure I ever read the Judy Bolton books.
I think I am going through my second childhood as I am reading/re-reading the Nancy Drew books. The original series are sometimes hard to find but love them. Never read the Hardy Boys although I did watch the series way back when. I, too, never head of the Dana girls. I read some of the Trixie Belden series and the Cherry Ames series. I also love the vintage broach you found!
I’d love to find some of the really early Nancy Drew books — I heard she was a bit more sassy.
I like to collect tea pots and miniature tea sets. I used to collect books and I have one or two of the Dana books and all of the Nancy Drew books. I love these old series.

I still collect Nancy Drew books if it’s one I need, was collecting the Dark Shadows paperbacks but I think I have them all lol, oh and now cozy mysteries is what I would be putting a BOLO out for if I went to an antique mall or any kind of bookstore. My dream is to stumble onto a nice cheap American Girl doll but that’s basically a dream, they always go pretty high at these sales.
I don’t think I’ve ever even seen an American Girl doll at a sale! They are so popular!
I collect cast iron skillets. Love going into places and trying to find them. Think about how old they are, who used them and the care they had for them.
